Do illegal immigrants who arrive in the US from Mexico get put into jail?

  • What kind of punishments do they receive? And does this have to do with the "catch-and-release" policy? Its for a school paper that I'm doing on border security. Thanks!


  • Very few do. The immigration laws on the southern US borders are & have been hardly enforced for years. Illegal immigration of Mexicans north from their rich, but corruptly run country, have swelled by some estimates to over 20 million in the US.
    If they break laws, many towns have "sanctuary policies" in which they do not report the illegals to ICE. And they repeat offenses.
    So much info is out there, I supplied a link to a reputable immigration site.


  • Most local L.E. officers would rather not mess with arresting illegal aliens. But yes, if they are found to be in the U.S. without the proper documentation, then they are arrested, placed in the local jail pending transfer to INS custody.


  • They gt put in jail if they break our laws, and if they get caught, if they didn't break any law and get caught they are taken back to the port of entry and sent back.
    If they got caught breaking a law, they would be punished according to the severity of the crime.


  • If they commit a felony offense then they do get put in jail, serve the sentence for their crime and get deported when they finish serving their time.
    If they are just caught entering illegally they are checked to see if there are any warrants for their arrest and if not they are brought back to Mexico.

    Most that are illegal are rounded up, placed into custody, interviewed and sent back to Mexico.


  • they get put in jail. their names are recorded and they are deported asap which gives them the chance to return illegally again.and this continues to turn into a revolving door because if they are caught again they get deported again and nothing ever happens to them. and if they are lucky when the new president elect gets sworn into office one of his first acts as president will be to grant them asylum, pardons or citizenship
