I need to upgrade my CPU and I am upgrading from a pentium-4 single-core at 2.99 GHz to a Core 2 Duo running at 2.6 GHz per core. Is this a significant upgrade or am I wasting money doing this? The operating system is Windows XP.
you'll see a significant upgrade, i went from AMD x2 to intel quad core and i love it. make sure your sockets are the same. the new core2dou are LGA 775
Make sure your motherboard is compatible. I think the core 2s use a different slot then most P4s.
It is a significant upgrade. You would notice a HUGE difference once from a P4 to a Core 2 Duo. Make sure you have at least 2GB of ram to benefit from this upgrade. Since Core 2 Duo uses 2 cores, you can multitask better without much lag.
