My pc wont recognize my linksys pci adapter.?

  • It all used to be fine until i reset my router today and when it was up and running i could not get a wireless connection via my pc which is using vista.

I checked the device manager and there was an exclamation mark next to it that said something like 'device cannot start' so i uninstalled it so that it would automatically install after i clicked on 'scan for hardware changes' but now it doesn't even show up.

I've restarted and i know the router is ok and physically connected because the green light is on.

What could be wrong with it?

  • google it

  • I would reseat the PCI card first off. Then install the software that came with the adapter, not just the Windows Scan.

If the card is still not detected, try using a different PCI slot to eliminate that possibility.

Linksys PCI Adapters are not known for their longevity, so it is very possible that its burned up.

  • Having reset the router will not have affected the card. Having uninstalled it you should now uninstall ALL its' software from the machine and remove the card. Then restart the machine. I would advise running ccleaner.exe to remove any left over registry entries. Then shut down and re-insert the card. Re-install ALL its' software. You will then need to connect by cable to the router to set its' configuration. Once you have the ISP information set, set the wireless security. You will then need to test that the wired connection works, and then remove the cable and use the wireless card's connection software to find the router, set matching encryption and connect.
