What the best method to grow a carpet of java moss?

  • I want my java moss to grow and attach to driftwood and rock. I have heard that it would be easier to tie it with fishing line and put it in the tank and I have also heard the same thing but instead of putting it in the tank, you have to grow it emersed (outside of water) while keeping it in high humidity. I want the nice carpet look to it...what would be best...emersed or submerged?

also suggestions as to what fertilizer to use.

    current tank temperature: 82F
I also use tetra florapride and am also planning on doing DYI Co2 for that tank.

  • If you want it to grow on the bogwood best way to do that is to yes attach it but leave it in the tank with the fish. I love the way java moss looks on bogwood I have some in my tank.

With java moss it is really easy to grow. It likes low light nothing to bright. Any plant fertiliser for aquarium plants would work. If your tank has higher nitrates that will help it grow.

It takes some time. but once it starts growing it will not stop.
